Checklist
Every hunter will have his/her personal
requirements for gear, but listed below is a basic list to serve as a
reminder.
Deer ?? Turkey ?? Hog ?? Varmint Hunters
- Camoflage Clothing (pants, shirts, jacket, etc.)
- Face Mask (Bow and Turkey Hunters)
- Camoflage cap (stocking, baseball, etc...)
- Gloves (heavy and light)
- Cold/Wet weather boots
- Lightweight boots for warmer days
- Wet weather gear
- Day Pack (For taking snacks, water, gear to stand)
- Sharp knife with stone
- Binoculars (highly recommended)
- Weapon of choice:
- Rifle-Preferably .270 or larger (shots may vary from 50 to 300 yards). Two boxes of ammo, with rifle presighted
- Bow- 40 Plus draw weight (State law), arrows
- Shotgun of choice: 12 Gauge, preferably 3 to 31/2 magnum with 4,5 or 6 shot for Turkey
- Calls (Deer grunt, slates, predator, etc..)
- Camcorder/camera with film
Quail Hunters
- Shotgun of choice, 12 Gauge, with improved/modified chokes
- Fluorescent orange hat, shirt and or vest
- Vest for shell/bird storage
- Comfortable walking boots
Dove Hunters
- Shotgun of choice, one case of shells
- Tan/Camo shirt
- Vest for bird/shell storage
- Camoflage stool/chair for sitting
Meat and Trophy Care
Meat Processing and Taxidermy work are the responsibility of the hunter.
Walk-in coolers and freezers are located at the lodge for storage of your
trophy until you depart. Skinning, caping and quartering are availble for a
nominal fee by experienced guides on site. For your trophy and meat care,
Salt Fork recommends the following:
